FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Answers to some of the questions we're asked most often. If you can't find what you're looking for, just give us a call.

Quotes & pricing

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. All quotes are free and come with no obligation. For smaller jobs we can often give you a price over the phone; for larger projects such as rewires, we'll visit to take a look and then provide a clear written quote.

Are your prices fixed?

For most planned work we provide a fixed price, so you know exactly what you'll pay before we start. Fault finding is charged on time spent, and we'll keep you informed as we go. If we discover anything unexpected, we'll always discuss it with you before carrying out extra work.

How do I pay?

We'll confirm payment terms with your quote. For larger projects, payment may be staged in line with the work completed.

Our work

What areas do you cover?

We're based in East Lancashire and cover Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Blackburn, Great Harwood, Clayton-le-Moors, Rishton, Church, Darwen, Haslingden, Burnley and the surrounding areas. If you're not sure whether we cover you, just give us a call.

Do you do small jobs?

Absolutely. No job is too small - whether it's replacing a light fitting, adding a socket or fixing a faulty switch, we're happy to help.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. As well as domestic work, we carry out installations, maintenance, inspections and repairs for shops, offices, landlords and small businesses.

Will I get a certificate for the work?

Yes. All work is tested on completion and you'll receive the appropriate certificate - an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits and major work, or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for smaller jobs. Notifiable work is registered with Building Control.

Do you tidy up after yourselves?

Always. We treat your home with respect, use dust sheets and floor protection, and leave every job clean and tidy.

Safety & regulations

What is an EICR?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a detailed inspection and test of the fixed electrical installation in a property. It checks that the wiring, consumer unit, sockets, switches and fittings are safe and identifies anything that needs attention.

How often should my home's electrics be checked?

For owner-occupied homes, an inspection is recommended at least every ten years, and whenever the property changes hands. Rented homes must be inspected at least every five years.

Is it safe to do my own electrical work?

Some very minor work, such as replacing a like-for-like light switch, can be done by a competent person. But many jobs - including new circuits, consumer unit changes and work in bathrooms - are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations and must be certified. For your safety, we always recommend using a qualified electrician.

What should I do if I smell burning from a socket?

Switch off and unplug anything connected to it if it's safe to do so, and switch off the circuit at the consumer unit. Don't use the socket again until it has been checked. Then give us a call.
